Tour Guide

The Champlain Trail Museum and Pioneer Village (CTMPV) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to provide tours and programs for the general public. The successful applicant will be an organized team player that is comfortable working with children and people of all ages.

 
Duties include: 
-     Assist with planning and leading the museum’s day camp
-         Assist with special events throughout the summer
-     Provide guided tours of the CTMPV for the general public and special interest groups.
-         Assist with display work
-     Clean and maintain museums physical plant, grounds and exhibits
-     Assist visitors with requests for information
-     Act as excellent ambassadors for the museum and historical society
 
Qualifications
-         Student enrolled in a University degree or college diploma/certificate program with a focus in Education, History, Sociology, Anthropology or Museum Studies.
-         Excellent program organization skills
-         Excellent public speaking and program delivery skills
-          Experience working with children and in particular teaching and leading groups
-         Proficiency in Microsoft Office
-         Responsible and self-motivated individual
-         Ability to Multi-task
-         Interest in history and heritage in the community
-         Returning to full-time studies in the Fall
-         Bilingualism is a definite asset 
 
$10.25 an hour.  This approved position is 14 weeks long for 35 hours a week starting later in May.

Museum Maintenance Technician 
 
The Champlain Trail Museum and Pioneer Village (CTMPV) is seeking a motivated and energetic student to
maintain the Museum buildings and grounds. The successful applicant will be an organized and responsible team
player that is comfortable working with the public and volunteers.
 
Duties include:
-         Responsible for maintaining Museum buildings and restoration of large artifacts
-         Organizing collections areas and exhibits in the outdoor agriculture shed according to Museum standards.
-         Repairing signage outside the Museum.
-         Maintaining grounds (4 acres of lawns, flowerbeds and woodlot) to a high standard for tours and special events.
-         Assist with special events as required.
 
Qualifications:
-         College or University engineering or landscaping program or a related subject
-         College diploma program in small engine repair
-         Knowledge of gardening and landscaping techniques an asset as well as the ability to safely operate power equipment such as lawn tractors and mowers.
-         Good physical condition.
-         Reliable, flexible, punctual and responsible
-         Ability to multi-task.
-         Good team player with ability to work on their own with minimal supervision
-         Some knowledge of carpentry, painting and small engines would also be an advantage.
-         Interest in history and heritage in the community
-         Returning to full-time studies in the fall
 
$10.25 an hour.  Pending grant approval the length of position is 10 weeks at 30 hours a week starting in mid
May.

Collection Assistant

The Ottawa Valley Historical Society is seeking to hire a motivated individual to work as a Collection Assistant at the Champlain Trail Museum and Pioneer Village.

 

Duties include:

Entering accession records into the collection management database

Organize archaeological artifacts and put them in proper storage bags and containers

Enter archaeological artifacts into the collection management database

Responding to research requests from the public.

Assisting the Curator to process incoming artifact or archival donations.

Provide tours of the Museum to the general public and school groups.

Cleaning and maintenance of the Museum and grounds as required.

 

Qualifications:

This job is suited to a University or college student from a liberal arts field, i.e. history, social sciences, etc.   College courses in Museum Studies would be an asset.  As this job includes a fair amount of computer work, the successful candidate should have a good knowledge of computers and various programs.

Ability to multi-task.

Good public speaking skills.

An interest in history and heritage in the community.

Must be a full-time student this past spring and returning to full-time studies in the fall.  Bilingualism is a definite asset.
